Santa Claus comes to Can Gio…on a Vespa not a sleigh

Nov 25, 2008 by Van Anh in Charity

The fourth annual charity scooter run took off on 22nd November, bringing gifts and toys for orphaned and underprivileged children in Can Gio, approximately two hours outside Ho Chi Minh City.

In the past, most participants were foreigners, but this year the turnout was around half Vietnamese - which is great .  The huge group of almost 200 friends showed up with the common purpose of bringing the Christmas spirit to the disadvantaged children at Hoa Hiep school in Can Gio as Santa Clause.

Not as the traditional Santa who drives a sleigh with reindeer, this was more modern with a large group who drove more than 2 hours on scooters to the children. Children under 15 years old were a little bit scared when they saw our “Santa”, some even came out screaming but it didn’t take them long to get used to the new Santa.

A lot of fun games were introduced so that everyone could join. People of different ages, cultural backgrounds, different languages but it didn’t a matter at that time. Four hours of playing with the kids and giving them presents helps light up and warm their life for the coming Christmas holiday and made us feel happy about our lives. We said good bye to the kids and promised we would try our best to help them more. See you all next year.
